Griffin Creek Hut

A few shots from a pre-Easter tramping trip into Griffin Creek Hutvwith my partner Hana and friends Katie and Bridget. Griffin Creek drains the Tara Tama Range, on the western side of the Main Divide about 46km past Arthur’s Pass Village. This trip’s a reasonably cruisy weekender (it does have steep climbs) but the days are relatively short. We did it as an out and back, but there are possible circuits either off-track or on unmaintained tracks. The present route is kept open by the wonderful volunteer efforts of Permolat. For more about Griffin Creek Hut and track times, check out Remote Huts.

For the love of it... Thanks to Frank King and Honora Renwick for their work on the track.

Once in the creek bed it's a pleasant cruise upstream, with frequent crossings. Saw a few whio in here too.

My harem for the weekend outside the four-bunk Griffin Creek Hut. The hut's been well looked after and is in great nick.

An abundance of mountain cedar around the hut give a unique feel.
