Some of our blog visitors and followers have asked about how they could read the feature story I wrote for the 6th edition of the Bikepacking Journal.

This beautifully produced journal (created by the team at Bikepacking.com) is published twice a year and is not available for general purchase outside of subscriptions.

However, they sometimes publish journal stories on the website too, a while after the issue is out, and I’m happy to say my feature, The American Cordillera, has now been published online along with a bunch of extra photos that were not in the print edition.

Hop on over to Bikepacking.com to read this retrospective of mine and Hana’s amazing 45,500km bikepacking tour from northern Alaska to central Patagonia (2016–2020).

Ushuaia was the ultimate goal, but that plan was curtailed by Covid. With a bit of luck we’ll get back there in 2022 to finish it off.

For now, enjoy the read…

Mark, your pictures always fill me with an incurable desire to be back on the road. Hopefully soon for both of us.

Hope you and Hana are well,

Thank you Kai! I hope your recovery has been 100%. Yes – looking so forward to getting back out there. The photos are a constant reminder of how amazing that simple life was.

    Sir,
I’m not new to bikepacking, but am new to the idea of documenting these trips with more thoughtful and inspiring photos. I am trying it, but there is much room for improvement . Your images nearly push me out the door to my bike, they are so compelling. I’ll be excited to read more about your photo techniques while “out there”. Best wishes to you both,
